Like
most of the furniture I
have built, my clock designs are inspired by Mission and Arts &
Crafts styles. I believe in simple designs meticulously
crafted with quality materials. I take great care in the selection of
the wood and the time-consuming placement and matching of grain and
color. I work in a wide variety of hardwoods. Some wooden clocks
builders will only use high grade plywood for gears as a means to work
around the chipping that occurs when routing hardwoods across the
grain.
I never use plywood and I
never worry about chipping on cross
grains! Instead, I have created a 12-joint gear design that arranges
wood grains radially through 360 degrees and permits a
ny type
of
hardwood to be used. As a result, my gear making process takes
longer but, the quality of the gear is greatly enhanced.
